Engagement Session Planning Tips
Whats the benefit of an engagement session?
Many Pittsburgh engagement photographers tend to say an engagement session is a great “wedding photography practice run” before your wedding day, and its true! Not only are you getting fun & creative portraits, but it’s a great way to shake off any picture taking jitters before your wedding day. You’ll also have a chance to see how I walk you through the posing process, which will give you a clear understanding of how I photograph. Another advantage of an engagement session is getting the opportunity to pick a favorite photo location that you simply won’t have time to visit on your wedding day. Some of my couples set out with a wedding day game plan to visit 2-3 portrait locations, however realistically there’s just not enough available time in their day to accomplish that. An engagement session at that 2 or 3rd favorite spot can take advantage of that location’s unique setting and style, which you’re probably not going to get on your wedding day. Last but not least, you’ll also be getting fun-amazing shots that you can display on your walls, share across Facebook and decorate your wedding reception table with.
Engagement Photography Clothing Tips
Whether you’re deciding on a formal or casual session (or both), solid colors are a go-to choice. Florals, bright colors, or busy patterns can be distracting for portraits. In terms of color, select a combination of a neutral color and a few coordinating color tones for an outfit (ex: brown with pink & blue; gray with blue & white). Couples can certainly match color tones throughout their outfits but don’t feel the need to wear the same color shirts for example (that can appear a little overboard in some cases). Keep jewelry to a minimum to avoid distractions in your photos. For women, stick to a simple necklace or bracelet and avoid temporarily putting any hairbands around your wrists. For men, avoid wearing any bulky wristwatches.
